Courtney Boyd Myers of The Next Web offered an interesting suggestion to PR pros at a recent event: Send a journalist who covers your beat an email introducing yourself (before pitching any stories to them) and listing your clients. She just sent some kudos to a firm that took her advice:
+1 for good PR goes to JS @mintcollective. I love when PR pros email me a list of their clients first and ask “which ones interest you?”— Courtney Boyd Myers (@CBM) February 16, 2012
The story pitching process is one of the few types of exchanges between professionals where people get down to business before introducing themselves. Just like a cocktail party, it’s nice (and useful) to introduce yourself before asking for something.
